New Iowa Insurance License Requirements

In the wake of the devastating tornadoes and flooding Iowa weathered in 2024, Governor Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 619 into law on April 22, 2025, creating several newly required insurance license types. 


Effective July 1, 2025, under Senate File 619, state licensure is now required in Iowa for the following roles: 

  • Public Adjuster (Business Entity) 

  • Independent Adjuster (Individual) 

  • Independent Adjuster (Business Entity) 

  • Staff Adjuster (Individual) 

  • Appraiser (Individual) 

  • Appraiser (Business Entity) 

  • Umpire (Individual) 


Practicing without an insurance license in Iowa is now a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine between $750 and $7,500.
