Every January 28 is Data Privacy Day, a day meant to highlight ways you can keep your personal information protected online.

To help you “celebrate” and ensure your personal data is secure, here are the top five cybersecurity best practices recommended by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA):

1. Create Strong Passwords – Each account should have a unique, random password that’s 16 characters or longer. 

2. Use a Password Manager – Safely store and access your passwords—and create stronger passwords. 

3. Enable Multifactor Authentication (MFA) – An additional layer of protection against bad actors and compromised passwords.  

4. Update Software – Many software updates are meant to address security risks and keep you protected.  

5. Recognize & Report Phishing – Lookout for urgent, emotionally-charged language threatening dire consequences meant to get you to act before you think.
