New Insurance CE Requirements in Connecticut, Washington, and Louisiana

Three states have rolled out new continuing education requirements in 2026 and 2027. Here's what's changing, who it affects, and when you need to act.

Connecticut Re-Implements Flood Insurance Training Requirement (Effective April 15, 2026)
Effective April 15, 2026, Connecticut resident insurance producers holding Property/Casualty or Personal Lines authority must complete a one-time, three credit NFIP Flood Insurance course approved by the Connecticut Insurance Department.
This course must be taken before the producer’s next renewal period. The three credits will be applied toward the licensee’s total General credit requirement. Failure to comply with this continuing education requirement could jeopardize the Producer’s authority to write insurance through the NFIP.

Washington’s New 1-Hour Supplemental Long-Term Care Training (Effective May 1, 2026)
Effective May 1, 2026, Washington producers must complete a one-time one-hour continuing education course on Supplemental Long-Term Care Insurance before submitting new business. This new requirement is in addition to the Initial 8-Hour and Refresher 4-Hour LTC training courses.
Our Washington 1-Hour Supplemental LTC Insurance course is designed to provide a practical understanding of supplemental long-term life insurance (SLTC). This course also focuses on producers' responsibilities and consumer protection standards related to premiums, rates, and claims. Producers will learn how to comply with education, testing, and reporting requirements, recognize potential penalties for noncompliance, and apply consumer protection standards.
This course is available now on our Washington insurance CE catalog. Upon completion, your course will be instantly submitted to the state for credit.
Louisiana’s New 2-Hour Insurance Law Legislative Update CE Requirement (Due July 31, 2027)
Louisiana resident Producers and Adjusters renewing on or after July 31, 2027, must now complete two hours of continuing education on Louisiana insurance legislative updates. These two hours are part of the total CE license renewal requirement, similar to the 3-hour Ethics CE requirement.
Our Louisiana Legislative Review insurance CE course has been designed to meet this new 2-hour legislative update CE requirement. The course offers the latest updates about new laws, regulatory changes, and compliance requirements that impact insurance practices across the state.
